I’m not seeing anything posted recently, but I want to say this: I have been fearful of losing salvation for years for not tithing. The church I was baptized into has a prophet that interchanges increase with income, connects God’s provision, healing, answered prayer, etc. with paying tithe, and we are cursed with a curse if we don’t. Is that God’s way? I am searching diligently to know the truth. Thank you for writing. I find it courageous. These things are not discussed, much less questioned in the church where my membership is.
Thanks for commenting. I’ve been focusing on a new book for the last few months. I’m reevaluating whether to continue blogging, actually. But I’m glad you’re talking about this. I’ve been through similar “teaching.” The whole thing about tithing 10% to your church is based on either a misunderstanding or misuse of Malachi 3:8-11. You are not robbing God. The tithe was for Israel, not the church. It was to support the Levites because they were responsible for administrative work of the temple and the government but had no land therefore no way of supporting themselves. I explain it in detail in this post. https://davidandersontheauthor.com/2021/09/28/the-tithe-of-malachi-38-11-was-a-tax/
Bottom line: you are not robbing God. You are not cursed for not tithing. If they are using the Bible to try to blackmail you into giving more than you can afford, I’d look for another church.
